Nintendo officially pulls the plug on the Wii U's Project Giant Robot

It seems that it never really got off the ground

In case you need a refresher (I sure did), Nintendo showed off what appeared to be one of Shigeru Miyamoto's side projects during E3 2014 in Project Giant Robot. The premise of the game was quite simple, you controlled (as you can probably guess) a giant robot where the screen would show you your mechanical masterpiece from a 3rd person perspective while the Wii U controller displayed the action from 1st person. The Robots would battle one-on-one until the other one fell, which fell in line with the more family friendly kid-oriented approach that Nintendo is known for.

Now, two years later, with the Wii U officially ceasing production and the Nintendo Switch inbound in just over a month, Nintendo has officially decided to close down any further development on Project Giant Robot.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like much ever came out of the project behind its concept and a barebones demo which Miyamoto himself showed off with much delight. News on the game was virtually non-existent in the time since its reveal, so given everything, it's no surprise to see this game get the pink slip.
